The 20th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP-20) took place from December 1 to December 12, 2014. Its purpose was to establish the bases on which a new international climate agreement replacing the Kyoto Protocol can be negotiated at the Paris COP-21 in December, 2015.
The aim of the future agreement, which will come into effect in 2020, is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to limit global warming to 2ºC above pre-industrial levels as compared to the beginning of the industrial age.
A Québec delegation to Lima led by the Minister of Sustainable Development, the Environment and the Fight Against Climate Change, David Heurtel, participated in various activities and events between December 7 and December 10.
