Wastewater from Isolated Dwellings

Wastewater from isolated dwellings poses serious health and environmental risks if it is not properly treated before being discharged into the environment. Since this water contains contaminants, direct contact with or ingestion of it can cause illness. These contaminants can also affect the water quality of our lakes and waterways, and the health of aquatic fauna.

To prevent these risks, the Regulation respecting wastewater disposal systems for isolated dwellings governs the design, construction, and operation of wastewater treatment installations for isolated dwellings.

This webpage presents information regarding domestic wastewater management for individual treatment systems generating less than 3,240 litres of domestic wastewater per day.
