Québec at Rio+20

The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, otherwise known as Rio+20, was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in June 2012, to mark the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) that was held in the same city. Rio+20 provided an opportunity to reiterate the political commitment to sustainable development, assess progress made so far and focus on filling gaps in order to reach the goals that were set during the previous conferences in Rio and Johannesburg (2002) and define the means by which new challenges can be met. The Conference focused on two themes: the green economy in the context of sustainable development poverty eradication; and the institutional framework for sustainable development.
