Minister Heurtel to participate in the VerdeXchange International green tech event

Québec, January 27, 2017 – The Minister of Sustainable Development, the Environment and the Fight against Climate Change, David Heurtel, will be a panelist at the VerdeXchange Conference taking place in Los Angeles from January 29 to 31, where he will present the innovative initiatives Québec has implemented to fight climate change, placing special emphasis on the Québec-California carbon market.

Minister Heurtel will speak during the opening plenary and again during a luncheon session in which Mary Nichols, Chair of the California Air Resources Board (ARB) will also give a presentation. The ARB has been a partner with Québec in the carbon market since 2014. Addressing an anticipated audience of several hundred participants, the minister will have an opportunity to provide a broad overview of the carbon market and explain how its revenue is used to finance the Green Fund – a tool that allows the Québec government to support a number of initiatives to assist Québec’s citizens, municipalities and businesses in their efforts to fight climate and to modernize Québec’s economy based on innovation and decarbonization.

During his stay, he will also speak with members of various governments and representatives of international businesses and agencies to discuss climate issues, promote Québec’s key initiatives, strengthen partnerships and identify areas for increased collaboration.
