Draft Government Sustainable Development Strategy

On October 2, 2007, the Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks unveiled the draft Government Sustainable Development Strategy, which is a key element of the Sustainable Development Act, adopted in 2006. The Minister also announced the launch of an on-line public consultation, and a parliamentary commission, both held from October 2 to November 12, 2007.

During this period, 185 position papers and opinions were received. Participants, citizens and organizations alike expressed their views and conveyed their recommendations on the draft strategy. Thirty-one organizations, from all walks of society, were heard during proceedings of the Committee on Transportation and the Environment held in the National Assembly from October 17 to November 8, 2007. The commission adopted several of the recommendations at a work session held on November 14, 2007.

The report of the parliamentarians who are members of the committee is also available (see pages 53 to 68 of the November 14, 2007, work session minutes).
